Current Projects
The projects listed below were selected by CEQ members in May 2006 as the projects they were most interested in pursuing in 2006-2007, and are currently in various stages of development. For more information about these projects, contact CEQ Chair Jonathan Lane at jonathanlane [at] wustl.edu, who will direct you to a team member as appropriate.
- Moving towards "carbon neutrality" through a combination of energy conservation education and pledges, and the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates.
- Contracting for, obtaining, or creating a list of environmentally preferable suppliers and supplies
- Exploring the installation of solar heating on campus
- Developing an unofficial "Environmental Oversight Board," gathering information about plans for campus development, considering their environmental implications, and possibly making suggestions
- Decentralized environmental education – identifying ~1-2 people in every department and dorm who will be responsible for disseminating particular pieces of information to their group during the school year
- Developing a paid summer internship program for one or more WU students to work on projects related to campus sustainability
- Exploring the installation of wind turbines on or near campus
- Promoting creation of a solar-powered building project at WU, such as solar house or solar car, like many other universities have; working with EnCouncil, Engineers Without Borders or other interested organizations
- Coordinating/funding re-use of dining waste through off-site composting
